Group leader:  Julie Roy
Roberta Walker
Time:  15:00 to 17:00
Venue:  Casa de Cultura Denia

We are a small group who enjoy sharing a diverse range of activities under the poetry reading umbrella. Including: Group Readings (We have worked our way through Alan Bennett’s “Talking Heads” and Willy Russell’s “Shirley Valentine”), Personal Poetry Readings (normally selected to a theme each month) and listening to recordings by professional actors.

To allow everyone attending the opportunity to participate we have to limit numbers and are currently at full capacity - but if anyone would be interested and like to go on the waiting list please do get in touch.

We meet from 15:00 to 17:00 on the first Tuesday of each month at the Casa de Cultura in Denia.

Sonnet 29: BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,
I all alone beween my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
(Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

As recited by Judy Dench on the Graham Norton Show recently. Do watch and listen on YouTube to see how it should be done!:
